Even if their winery was officially established nearly 140 years ago, the Brema family's involvement in winemaking predates that. Their vineyards span a vast territory, covering six municipalities: Nizza Monferrato, Fontanile d'Asti, San Marzano Oliveto, Incisa Scapaccino, Sessame d'Asti, and Mombaruzzo. Umberto Brema, representing the fifth generation, continues to champion the region's premier red grape, barbera, producing various versions that showcase its attributes and varietal nuances. On the nose, the Nizza A Luigi Veronelli '21 exhibits a lovely balance between the sweetness of oak and the fullness of fruit. The palate manifests considerable body and refreshing acidity, harmoniously combined, concluding with a long, velvety finish. The Monferrato Rosso Umberto '20, a Cabernet Sauvignon, plays on green pepper and sweet spice nuances. It's an austere drink, with slightly harsh tannins, but still elegant. The Barbera d'Asti Ai Cruss '21 evokes wet earth and Mediterranean scrub, while in the mouth it's enjoyable, with good persistence.
