Avignonesi

Description

For decades now, the Avignonesi winery has been a benchmark of the Nobile di Montepulciano appellation. In 2009, the Belgian Virginie Saverys took over, initially converting vineyard management to organic, and later to biodynamic practices. This rigorous shift has had a discernible impact on the winery's expansive portfolio, refining its stylistic approach into something more straightforward, yet alluring, founded on achieving just the right aromatic and gustatory balance. Some youthful exuberance, the result of oak, doesn't too negatively impact the gorgeous aromas of the Nobile di Montepulciano Poggetto di Sopra '19, with its generous fruity notes, hints of underbrush and pencil lead. The palate is decidedly convincing: lively, long, with a balsamic finish. The Nobile di Montepulciano '19 proves well crafted. The Grandi Annate has become an Igt, but remains a monovarietal Sangiovese that in the 2018 version features a nuanced nose and a tasty gustatory profile.
