Description

Some will remember him as Carlo Cracco's first "victim" in Hell's Kitchen: seven years ago Matteo Grandi won the program and it proved to be the turning point in his career, which began in the East. Now the chef has returned home. His restaurant in San Bonifacio closed, he's operating in the city center, leading a very elegant and modern venue spread out over two floors. At street level there's the Gran Caffé Garibaldi bar-bistro, open from 8.30 am to midnight, while on the upper floor there's fine dining in an intimate space. Grandi is an "Italian" chef of great technique, with strong French and Asian influences, hence a menu where contrast is balanced and surprises are always pleasant. Three tasting menus are available (€70, €100 and €130). The dining room and pâtisserie are aptly managed by his wife, Elena, while a rich cellar that's particularly focused on natural wines finds in Raffaele Mor a brilliant director.
