Gruppo Campari Cinzano

Description

In their small Turin shop, Giovanni and Carlo Cinzano, master spirit distillers, launched a new trend in aromatic wines, made with local herbs and spices in 1757. About 30 years later they were appointed official suppliers to the Royal Household and the Savoy family asked the Cinzanos to create a sparkling wine to compete with champagne. Thus, in 1840, the first Italian spumante was created, and is still a must in Italy with various types (dry, rosé, sweet). Since the late 19th century, vermouth (the quintessential base for Italian mixed drinks) and spumante conquered the rest of the world, reaching South Africa and South America. In 1887 a widespread advertising campaign was launched and in the early 20th century Cinzano opened its first production centre abroad, in Chamberry, France. From designer illustrations to television ads, from the post-War to the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties, advertising has played a fundamental role for Cinzano. Since 1999, Cinzano has been part of the Campari Group, which also includes the Aperol brand.
