In the 1970s Giuseppe Da Re owned one of the leading bakeries in the north-east with considerable production quantities but artisan traditional methods. After some experimentation, he offered a new product in 1989, his bibanesi, a cross between bread and breadsticks, crispy and crumbly, dry and lightly salted, made from extra virgin olive oil with no preservatives or additives. The shape is always different because they are rolled individually by hand after lengthy rising with mother yeast. As well as the classic version other varieties include: milk and honey , wholemeal, Biballegri, flavoured and kamut bio. The special, limited edition inspired by art is unusual because these unusual breadsticks are little masterpieces. The packaging is designed by Dario Fo. The producer is Da Re di Bibano, of Godega di Sant'Urbano, and a second plant is at Zoppè di San Vendemiano.
