Thanks to the collaboration between contemporary art gallery owner Gianni Piretti and Alessandro Breda, chef at the homonymous restaurant in Oderzo, restaurant Gellius opened 5 years ago in Knokke, the Positano of northern Europe. The result of this artistic alliance is a restaurant with fanatic attention for quality raw materials, dispatched every week from Italy. Their skilful and innovative instinct makes their cuisine contemporary, while creating a welcoming and refined atmosphere. The luxurious space is an authentic art gallery and definitely one of the most elegant restaurant in northern Europe. From the menu we suggest the risotto with light smoky notes given by the fish stock and smoked scamorza, served with clams and basil gel that balance everything perfectly, while candied lemon on top creates a sweet and sour contrasting flavour. Sicilian-born resident chef Davide Asta outdid himself with his ‘ceci n’est pas un spaghetti à la tomate’, i.e. spaghetti cooked in an organic tomato sauce served with pesto and garnished at the table with burrata cheese. Made with fine ingredients, this simple dish is an authentic explosion of taste, enhanced by the mindblowing fusion of the burrata cheese and the sweetness of the tomato. The white chocolate praline mousse, yogurt and lime on a strawberry sauce with candied rhubarb completes the experience. Gellius is our Restaurant of the Year in the Top Italian Restaurants 2022.
