The consortium got its start in 1966 and today comprises 70 member dairy producers and more than 2,000 milk suppliers. Their aim is to provide consumers with excellent products that respect traditional methods and quality standards but also take advantage of the best of what technology has to offer. Virgilio Latterie Mantovane is the only Italian consortium that has managed to bring together producers of Grana Padano PDO and Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, a feat made possible by the fact of having a presence that spans the left and right banks of the river Po. Parmigiano Reggiano, aged anywhere from 18 to 30 months, is their crown jewel. Then there’s their Grana Padano, available aged 16, 18 or 24 months, and as a sliced cheese or small cheeses. They also offer whipped cream, cream, milk and besciamella. They also make butter, mascarpone, stracchino, certified squacquerone di Romagna and coffee desserts as well.
