Previews of the awards of the wine tasting by Gambero Rosso's Vini d'Italia 2023 guide. Here are the best wines from Sardinia.

On the gamberorossointernational.com website all the official previews of wines awarded with Tre Bicchieri. Here below, Sardinia

We start with an unequivocal fact: 16 Tre Bicchieri is a record for Sardinia and, if we compare that to the number of wines sent for tasting, the region is among the best performing in Italy. Having said that, it would be wrong to stop at just this figure. The quality of the wine continues to grow from harvest to harvest, and it's appropriate to consider the number of Due Bicchieri (Due Bicchieri Rossi, especially) as a real achievement. With this in mind, Sardinia offers a range of outstanding wines, where by quality we don't only mean gustatory balance or aromatic complexity, but also authenticity, territorial identity, and respect for the varietal qualities of the grapes. The other aspect to consider is the fact that all its many territories are part of this growth.

Tre Bicchieri Sardinia: the strength of the land

From north to south there's no area that's being neglected, starting with Gallura (an ideal subregion for whites, but one that's also capable of offering sensational reds), by way of Alghero and, further south, Oristano, continuing on to Barbagia and Ogliastra (where we also find peculiar micro-territories like Mamoiada, Oliena, Orgosolo or Jerzu), all the way up to the province of Cagliari. It's precisely for this reason that we'll never tire of repeating that Sardinia, in order to bring to light the characteristics of the individual areas, is in need of a zoning effort that can update the appellations (whose borders have remained unchanged since the time of their creation) and that currently see Sardinia's primary and most prestigious grapes associated only with the region's largest and most dispersive DOC zones.

Getting back to the awards, we'd like to highlight some new developments and repeat performances that are, in our opinion, exemplary of the path that some great Sardinian wine territories should follow: Sa Raja, a very young winery, presented a Gallura of great character, a true expression of the granite terroir of the island's northeast, while Cannonau has no rivals if it focuses on elegance and drinkability, though without losing the area's trademark qualities, as demonstrated by Mamoiada's reds, those of Ora Grande de La Contralta (also based in Gallura) or Antonella Corda's Riserva (this last joins other Serdiana producers to make for a foursome of Tre Bicchieri). Neoneli's Bentu Luna once again delivers with their Sobi, and good news in Mandrolisai with Fradiles. Finally, Su Entu aptly represents Marmilla, while the historic Sella & Mosca winery demonstrates with their Torbato just how well some whites can age.
