The portfolio of Santa Margherita USA, the wine import and distribution company, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Santa Margherita Gruppo Vinicolo, is expanding. The company has announced the acquisition of Roco Winery in Oregon. The operation committed about 10 million dollars for the group that closed 2021 with a turnover of 210 million euros.

Founded in 2001 by Rollin and Corby Stonebraker-Soles, the winery is located in the Willamette Valley wine region. Under the winemaking leadership of Rollin Soles, the critically acclaimed winery produces every year about 180,000 bottles: from sparkling wines to whites made from Chardonnay grapes and elegant reds made from Pinot Noir grapes. Annual turnover is around 4 million US dollars. This is the first international acquisition, as pointed out by CEO Beniamino Garofalo"Roco Winery and Santa Margherita Gruppo Vinicolo share mutual values, such as the focus on regional terroirs and respect for the land and, in this framework, Rollin and Corby's on-site experience plays a crucial role in the partnership". Gaetano Marzotto, chairman of the board, asserted that "the U.S. marketplace is dynamic, and we believe in the quality of Oregon wines". For Rollin Soles, this new partnership "will allow them to continue making wines that are a true expression of their terroir".
We believe that the bet on Oregon vineyards also has to do with its warm climate and the search for a contemporary style, made of freshness and elegance rather than richness and opulence. The Marzotto company is already well established in the US, especially thanks to the Pinot Grigio which has been sold overseas for 60 years. Santa Margherita Group currently represents over ten wineries, including Santa Margherita, Ca' del Bosco, Masi, Kettmeir, Lamole di Lamole, Sassoregale, Torresella, Feudo Zirtari, Fattoria Sardi, Cà Maiol and Cantina Mesa. Santa Margherita Group has been awarded Winery of the Year in our Vini d’italia 2021 edition.
